PCR: detecting the virus or bacteria itself
Our molecular biology laboratory in Tangier performs PCR (gene amplification) testing: rather than looking for the antibodies your body produces in reaction — which is what serology does — PCR detects the genetic material of the infectious agent itself. Two concrete consequences: higher sensitivity (infection is detectable earlier, even before antibodies), and for some viruses the ability to quantify — the "viral load" that lets your doctor track a treatment's efficacy.
What our PCR platform in Tangier covers
Four families of tests, without appointment, on prescription: HPV genotyping (papillomavirus, including high-risk types 16 and 18), hepatitis B and C viral load for treated patients' follow-up, Chlamydia and Mycoplasma detection — the most often silent STIs — and the Covid-19 PCR test, notably for travel. Every report is validated by our medical biologist; clinical interpretation belongs to your doctor.
