The thyroid check-up: an essential examination in Tangier
The thyroid is a small gland located at the base of the neck that plays a fundamental role in the body's metabolism. Thyroid dysfunction can affect energy, weight, mood and even fertility. At the Tangier International Laboratory, we carry out complete thyroid assessments daily with reliable results.
What does a thyroid test include?
The standard thyroid test includes three main dosages:
- TSH (Thyroid stimulating hormone): this is the most important marker. A high level suggests hypothyroidism, a low level suggests hyperthyroidism.
- Free T4 (Thyroxine): hormone directly produced by the thyroid. Its dosage completes the interpretation of TSH.
- Free T3 (Triiodothyronine): active form of thyroid hormone in tissues.
When should you have a thyroid check-up?
Your doctor can prescribe this assessment in the event of:
- Persistent and unexplained fatigue
- Weight gain or loss for no apparent reason
- Mood disorders (anxiety, depression)
- Heart palpitations
- Fertility problems or menstrual cycle disorders
- Family history of thyroid disease
Women are more affected
Thyroid disorders are 5 to 8 times more common in women than in men. Screening is especially recommended during pregnancy, as untreated hypothyroidism can affect fetal development.
How does the exam take place at the Tangier International Laboratory?
The thyroid test is carried out by a simple blood test. No special preparation is necessary: you can eat and drink normally before the sample. We welcome you from Monday to Friday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Delay for results
The results of your thyroid test are available in less than 24 hours. You can consult them online via our secure portal or collect them directly from the laboratory.
