Diabetes in Morocco: a public health issue
Diabetes affects around 2 million Moroccans, and almost half are undiagnosed. Early detection is essential to prevent serious complications (kidney, cardiovascular, eye damage). At the Tangier International Laboratory, we offer all the tests necessary for screening and monitoring diabetes.
The different tests available
Fasting blood sugar
This is the basic test. A normal fasting blood sugar level is less than 1.10 g/L. Between 1.10 and 1.26 g/L, we speak of prediabetes. Above 1.26 g/L (confirmed by a second test), the diagnosis of diabetes is made.
Glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c)
HbA1c reflects average blood sugar levels over 2-3 months. This is the reference examination for diabetes monitoring. The goal is generally to keep HbA1c below 7%.
Postprandial blood glucose
Measured 2 hours after a meal, it assesses the body's ability to manage sugar after eating.
Who should get tested?
- Anyone over 45
- In case of overweight or obesity
- If family history of diabetes
- Women who have had gestational diabetes
- In case of excessive thirst, frequent urge to urinate, fatigue
