Spermogram in Tangier: how does it work?

The spermogram: key examination of male fertility

The spermogram is the first-line test in the assessment of male fertility. At the Tangier International Laboratory, we offer optimal conditions for collection and analysis, with detailed results according to WHO standards.

How to prepare for the spermogram?

For reliable results, it is recommended to:

  • Observe sexual abstinence for 3 to 5 days before collection
  • Avoid alcohol and tobacco in the preceding days
  • Report any ongoing medical treatment
  • Avoid fever or hot baths in the preceding weeks

How is the collection going?

Collection is preferably done in the laboratory, in a dedicated room ensuring privacy and comfort. On-site collection guarantees the best analysis conditions because the sample is processed immediately. If necessary, home collection is possible under certain conditions (transport time less than 30 minutes).

What parameters are analyzed?

The spermogram evaluates several parameters:

  • Volume of ejaculate (normal: 1.5 to 6 ml)
  • Sperm concentration (normal: ≥15 million/ml)
  • Progressive mobility (normal: ≥32%)
  • Morphology according to strict Kruger criteria
  • Vitality of spermatozoa

Time and results

Spermogram results are available in 24 to 48 hours. A single abnormal spermogram is not enough to make a diagnosis: a check is generally recommended after 3 months.
